Le Vintage Finds, Marysville
I’ll admit, I was initially baffled when it came to how I was going to incorporate the great outdoors into our Decorating + Organizing section. It was a challenge, but one that I rose to. I quickly realized that if I could bring my love of old things into my home with antique and vintage treasures, why couldn’t I find things that reminded me of the outdoors to bring inside too.
From there it didn’t take long to find my way to the door of Beach Glass House & Style in Mukilteo. Owner Krista won our Best of Snoco 2016 award for Best Home Decor Shop, and in the time since I’ve been a follower on social media. Within her feed you will find picture after picture of decor items that remind you of a day on the beach, time spent sailing the ocean, and exploring the woods of the PNW.
While there are shops here and there across Snohomish County where you can find similar decor styles, they aren’t quite the same. Why? Krista is a designer and decorator, building beautiful spaces for client after client. The things in her shop, they are a carefully curated by her using the same sense of style and flair that has made her a successful one.
Here’s more about Beach Glass & Style from Krista herself …
What made you get into home design and decorating?
I’ve always had a creative knack, but [fell] in love with architecture and design when I moved to New Orleans for my first job after graduate school … in college athletics of all things!
I spent many hours walking around the Garden District admiring the historical homes and exploring the antique shops on Magazine street and the French Quarter.
I moved back to Seattle and joined the DOT COM craze for a few years but kept doing decorating and design work on the side. When I “retired” from the corporate world after my second baby, I started K. Miller Interiors and have been building it every since.
Why did you make the shift to including a retail shop in addition to the services you offer?
I love exploring little unique shops and boutiques when I travel, and Mukilteo needed one! We are so fortunate to live in a beautiful area and I wanted to help people create ways to extend that beauty into their homes.
What will people find in your shop?
I would describe BEACH GLASS House & Style as a lifestyle boutique with beautiful pieces for both you and your home. In the shop you will find a collection of home decor, unique gifts and easy to wear apparel. We also feature local artists in our jewelry and original artwork.
How can the things in your shop help people bring the outdoors, and the feel of our area, into their home?
It only takes the view from my shop windows to understand how lucky we are to live somewhere as beautiful as the Pacific Northwest. We hear the term “West coast Style” often in design which can be interpreted many ways, but to me it’s a relaxed, classic and comfortable way of living in our homes. Design filled with natural colors and the combined use of wood, stone, glass and lot’s of light!
I’m a neutral girl at heart, and prefer to add layers of interest with a variety of textures and pops of color. At BEACH GLASS House & Style you’ll find beautiful throws, pillows and unique decor pieces to help create a well curated home.
Big changes are coming in June, What will be changing and what new things will customers have to look forward to when visiting your shop and your website?
It’s been 5 years since I first opened BEACH GLASS by K. Miller Interiors. What started as more of an extension of my design and decorating business has evolved into so much more! Our new brand BEACH GLASS House & Style is more representative of the expanded collection of items we have to offer.
We are also launching a new website featuring more information about our design services, a new blog to provide helpful design tips and ideas, and an online shop!
What is your favorite part about owning a small business, and about decorating and designing?
It’s never boring! When you’re a small business owner you wear so many hats. I’ll meet with a new design client, order new products for the shop, run payroll and hand pour some of our custom soy wax candles all in the same day! But the opportunity to help wonderful people create a place they love is my favorite part.
